Flick: “There is only one person to blame for Barca’s heavy defeat against Osasuna”
Hansi Flick admitted that he had to make these big changes to Barcelona’s starting lineup to face Osasuna in the eighth round of the Spanish League, which his team lost with a heavy score of 2/4.
Barcelona started with the following lineup:
Goalkeeper: Iñaki Pena
Defensive Line: Jules Conde – Sergi Dominguez – Pau Cobarsi – Gerard Martin.
Midfield: Pedri – Pablo Torre – Eric Garcia.
Attack line: Ferran Torres – Robert Lewandowski – Pau Victor.
Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Balde and Inigo Martinez were on the bench and about all these changes the German coach said: “I had no other choice, if you look at our team at the moment, we have three players in midfield. We have one player who is a defender. Then we have Casado, Pedri and Pablo. So it is four players, and you have to think about the players who will start. It is not easy, but we accept it.”
“I think after the break in October, a lot of players will be back, and that’s something we’re looking forward to. We have a lot of injuries, but there are no excuses today, I felt we could have won if we played better. Because in the second half, you could see that when we play and move like that, it’s good.”
Asked who was responsible for the defeat, Flick said: “If anyone is to blame, it’s me. It’s my duty to take care of the players. We made a few mistakes today. The players were tired and should have been given a rest.”
