Barcelona loses 263 million euros in the first hours of 2025

The refusal of the League to register Dani Olmo is a severe blow to Barcelona on an institutional, sporting and economic level. Laporta is very affected by this historical absurdity, on a sporting level it will be a huge loss for Flick and on an economic level it will be a terrible investment for the club’s coffers.

If it is confirmed that Olmo is not available in the second part of the season, the player will be a free agent and will have to get the full fixed contract he has until it expires in 2030. We are talking about 48 million euros that Barcelona will have to pay the player.

We must add to this the €55 million that Barcelona agreed with Leipzig for his transfer just five months ago, an amount that has not yet been paid in full and that Barcelona will have to continue paying in the coming seasons.

We must also add to this amount what he would lose from the transfer, because today Olmo is one of the most valuable players in the team and the transfer would have allowed, at least, to recover the initial investment. Olmo’s value, according to Transfermkt, is set at around 60 million euros, an amount that Barcelona would not receive either because Olmo could leave for free.

To this figure, we must add other aspects of importance as well. The club has concluded an agreement to sell VIP seats over the next 20 years to try to enter the 1:1 rule for 100 million euros, a sum much lower than the amount initially negotiated.

Initially there was talk of 200 million, but the Qatari company reduced its offer significantly when it saw Laporta between a rock and a hard place. So Barça loses another 100 million along the way.

Laporta will have to do everything in the coming hours to prevent this historical absurdity from being confirmed because at stake is the club’s prestige, his continuity as president and a lot of money. Allowing Dani Olmo to escape now would mean losing around 263 million euros.
